FF-03 Fireground Mistakes that Kill 6 Hours $35.00 Instructor: Chad Abel, Division Chief, Fishers Fire Department Each year approximately 100 firefighters die in the line of duty in our nation. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) investigates and reports on every firefighter fatality to determine causative factors for those incidents. The fact remains that over the years, firefighters have not found new ways to die. Researchers have found that contained within each NIOSH report regarding fireground deaths, there are no more than 13 mistakes that we make on the fireground that result in firefighter fatalities. Understanding and managing these mistakes is the key to making your next fire a safer one. This one day work shop is designed for both fire officers and aspiring officers alike. We will discuss the Fireground Mistakes that Kill and develop ways to identify and manage them. The class will focus on case studies of firefighter fatalities that will be used as a tool to identify similar situations that occur everyday in our own departments.
