AM-07 First In Last Out Leadership 12 Hours $85.00 Instructor: Harry Tibbetts, Deputy Chief (retired) Indianapolis FD This class is designed for any firefighter who is, or aspires to be a leader. Using information from the well-known book by Battalion Chief John Salka, "First In, Last Out, Leadership Lessons Form the New York City Fire Department" We will cover subjects which a leader must master in order to be effective. Pinning rank insignia to your collar does not mean that you automatically receive respect as a leader. The trust that your firefighters must have in you must be built over time. Trust can also be lost in an instant! The way to receive the respect and trust of your firefighters is to be the "first in, and last our". In other words, be their leader, not their boss! In the class we will cover the following subjects: What is "first in last out" leadership, What is the "leadership triangle"?, How do you forge strong relationships with your firefighters? How do you know if you are leading your people for success?, How do you define your values, and how do you live up to them?, How do you get your firefighters to do what you want tem to do?, How can you make certain that your people know that what is good for the organization is also good for them?, How can you be certain that you will make the right decision every time", How can you ensure that your people are able to execute their mission?, How can you lead your people during times of change and turmoil?. How do you become a mentor to the next generation of leaders?
Besides the fire service, we will use examples of great leaders from the military, private industry and politics. Each student will receive one copy of First in Last Out, Leadership, Lessons from the New Your City Fire Department" by Battalion Chief John Salka included in the price of this course.
